Transdev Awarded Paratransit Renewal in San Francisco

Transdev North America is pleased to announce its contract has been renewed and it will continue to serve San Francisco with its successful paratransit operation. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the contract renewal earlier this summer.

Transdev has managed paratransit services for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) since 2000. Transdev directly operates approximately 35 percent of the agency’s 800,000 annual paratransit trips, overseeing all aspects of a complex San Francisco Bay Area brokerage network, utilizing taxis, social service agency vans and private fleets to provide paratransit services. The contract also includes providing paratransit services using 112 SFTMA vehicles. Transdev employs more than 200 people in San Francisco and the Brisbane Operations Center located south of the city.

In addition to providing top quality service during the past 16 years, Transdev has taken a leadership role supporting SFMTA in its introduction of new technologies such as the paratransit debit card system and real-time arrival information for passengers. The company’s local team has also built strong relationships with the disability community in the Bay Area. Transdev’s current focus is on expanding the paratransit fleet, and implementing a new mobility-management center to provide transit options and information to seniors and persons with disabilities. It is also supporting SFMTA on longer-term planning and development of a new operations and maintenance center in the city.

“We are honored, every day, to serve the citizens of San Francisco and play a successful role in one of the largest transit agencies in the country” said Marc Soto, Transdev’s General Manager for the SFMTA contract. “We will continue to work hard each day to exceed the elevated expectations of this community and look forward to continuing to provide first-rate customer care and safe operations.”

The company is committed to uncompromising safety, and is an enthusiastic partner in helping the city achieve the goals of its Vision Zero initiative to eliminate pedestrian fatalities.
